This is an ominous sign. All the new 2009 BMW Z4s supplied for its international press launch in Alicante, Spain — sDrive 35i models in champagne metallic — came equipped with the optional twin-clutch seven-speed sport automatic. Even if the fixed paddles on the steering column allow you to play Robert Kubica on the wonderfully winding mountain roads nearby, it’s a clear signal that BMW isn’t aiming the Z4 at purists, anymore, and that the car has become something else.
